Good Afternoon Stingrays!
Thank you to everyone that came out to the swim meet against Imperial Oaks yesterday. We truly appreciate everyone stepping up and helping out. We had a hard fought meet against a much larger team. Our swimmers showed incredible determination and spirit!

COACHES CORNER
Happy Sunday Stingrays!
We have 3 invitationals this year. The first is the Summer Thunder coming up the first weekend in June, then our two end of season invitationals, Allstar and Ponderosa, will happen after Divisionals and swimmers can qualify for those at Divisionals. QR codes are posted at the pool so you can see the time qualifications. We will also have posters for your swimmers to sign when they qualify.
I wanted to take a second and shout out to everyone who showed up this Saturday. We saw even more time drops than last week and held our own against some tough competition. Next week is going to be just as tough so we need everyone there! Again, the coaches could not be more proud of how our team competed this past Saturday. Go Stingrays!
Coach Brian
Congratulations to Swimmers of the Week:
(5/6-5/10)
- Edith Brzezniak - Edith was very hesitant to swim at the beginning of the season, but she's been super brave and is swimming so great now! Sam OConner - Sam always works hard and is so sweet while he does it.
- Abbey Bowers - Abbey overcame big fears and tears to swim on a relay so that she wouldn't cause a scratch for her teammates. James Massaad - James has worked hard and dropped so much time this summer already!!
- Charlotte Mazur - Charlotte shows truly admirable determination every day at practice! Lyle Voelkel - Lyle is one of the first swimmers in his age group to jump in the water; he comes ready to work hard and have fun.
- Niya Frazier - Niya is going to quietly give it her all every time she gets in the water. Sky Thompson - Sky puts in great effort at practice and we appreciate it so much!
- Abby Conger - Abby has been a huge help with the younger age groups the past several weeks. Thanks Abby! Nathan Scholl - We've had some very challenging practices, but Nathan always puts his head down and gets it done.
- Kenzi Randle - Kenzi makes coming to practice a priority–no matter how much she’s already run at track that day! Ryan Yates - Ryan is an incredibly motivated swimmer, always asking questions and working hard to improve.
5/13-5/17
- Karli Paul - Karli is small but mighty and she gives maximum effort while she swims! Beckett Griswold - Beckett is putting in the work at practice and it shows!
- Emma Loynes - Emma is so kind to everyone in her lane and works hard. Jackson Sherrod - Jackson comes to practice every day with a great attitude!
- Kinsley Gilmore - You can always find Kinsley at the coaches’ tent before and after her races looking for advice on her swims. Jackson Griffith - Jackson had some major time drops this week thanks to his practice work ethic!
- Mary Summers - Mary holds a high standard for herself, always striving to improve. AJ Cox - AJ takes tips from the coaches to heart and immediately tries to implement them.
- Avery Edmonds - Without any hesitations, Avery (13) swam up so we could make a 15-18 Women’s relay this week. Gabe Parker - Gabe returned from an out of town trip early in order to swim at this week’s meet. Thanks Gabe!
- lella Patel - Iella is steadily dropping time in every race she swims! Cy Garcia - Cy is a great teammate inside the pool and out!
If you weren’t able to get your cap at the meet, please see the coaches this week at practice.
DECLARATION
**** Declaration closes on Tuesday at 9pm. Please be sure to declare your swimmer even if you will not be attending the meet. This week please choose one event that you haven’t swam or want to try to qualify for Summer Thunder and the coaches will choose the other two.
- What is declaration?
- Formally letting the coaches know if your swimmer is attending a meet.
- How do I declare my swimmer?
- In the Swimtopia app, log in and click on the meet; follow directions on the subsequent pages and popups; or
- On the team website, log in and click on the meet entry button, then follow directions on the subsequent pages and popups
- Why should I declare if my swimmer isn’t coming?
- So we know that you didn’t just forget
- If you just forgot and show up on Saturday morning, we have to get permission from the other team to let your swimmer participate; in addition to being at the mercy of our competitors, it is a pain for the computer people because the seed times have to be entered manually, which can delay the meet
- What happens if I don’t declare?
- The team NWAL Rep will pester you
- The program that creates the meet by merging the entries of the two teams will treat your swimmer the same as one who declared not attending
- Why do I need to declare by Tuesday night if the meet is on Saturday?
- NWAL rules dictate that the merge between the two teams takes place Thursday night at 7 so that if there are technical difficulties, they can be addressed on Friday
- Coaches need Wednesday to assign third events and relays
- What if I’m not sure if we can make it?
- Declare that your swimmer will attend; it is much easier to scratch your swimmer than to add him or her
- Add a note for the coach that your attendance is uncertain so coaches can make some contingency plans for relays
- Why should I only check two events for my swimmer?
- The coaches have to balance entries across events. Your swimmer can only be in three events. If every 9-10 girl picks the same three events, we forfeit points in the other three events for that age group. That may sound unlikely, but kids tend to avoid the 100 yard events.
- Coaches may want to challenge your swimmer based on something they have seen in practice; as much as we love the competition, the camaraderie, and the exercise, personal growth is a key goal of summer swim
