DIVISIONAL FAQ

What is Divisionals?

The Divisional meet means the five teams in our Division, which is Red 1, compete against each other in one end of season meet. NWAL is broken up into divisions of 5 or 6 teams (mostly 6, but it doesn't divide up perfectly that way). The teams in Red 1 are: SCST (us), BRLD (Bridgeland Barracudas), IOST (Imperial Oaks Seals), COLE( Coles Crossing Crocs) and TWNL (Towne Lake Wake)

The events are the same as a dual meet, except that mixed (2 boys, 2 girls) free relays are added. In our division, swimmers will still be limited to 2 relays, so even though there are 3 relays per age group, your swimmer can swim at most 2. Also note that in dual meets, we typically have A & B relays and sometimes C, but at Divisionals, we will only have A because of the number of teams and the number of available lanes (and because NWAL rules say so).

Because there are 5 teams, it will be a longer meet than a dual meet (my guess is we end between 4 and 5). However, we strongly encourage you to attend. As a team, it is the culmination of our season. It's another opportunity to set personal bests and qualify for end of season invitationals.

If you look at the NWAL site (www.nwal.org), you can see "League" in the top menu. If you hover over that, you'll see "Standings." Click on that, and you can see the standings for every division. Divisionals will count as 4 meets in the standings, with 1st place being awarded 4 wins, 2nd place being awarded 3 wins and a loss, etc. It is not a dual meet (dual meaning us and one other team), but in the sense that it counts in the standings, it is part of the regular season; it is not an invitational.

Is my swimmer eligible to swim at Divisionals?

To participate in Divisionals, there are no qualifying times, per se. However, a swimmer must have participated in at least 2 dual meets and have swum a legal time in an event for which he or she is entered. That is, Time Trials times do not count.

Do I need to volunteer?

Yes! If your swimmer is swimming at Divisionals, you must volunteer. If you have what you believe are extenuating circumstances preventing you from volunteering, talk to our Volunteer Coordinator, Jason Stefanick.

Is it free?

Yes it is free, it is part of our regular season.

COACHES CORNER

Happy Sunday, Stingrays!

You each have put in so much work this season and it’s great to see the progress you've made during the dual meets. Those who swam at Summer Thunder are still recovering from so many days of competition. This week all groups will work on fine tuning their races- focusing on the small details, like tight streamlines, not breathing the first few strokes of free and fly, kicking through the walls, turns (for 9 and ups), and strong finishes. These details can be the difference between 1st and 3rd place, or an AllStar cut versus a Ponderosa cut.

Swimmer of the Week - June 1-7

6u

  • Abigail Marshall - Abby has come SO FAR and we couldn’t be more proud of her progress!
  • Adam Presley - Adam was the only 5 year old from our team to attend Summer Thunder. Way to go Adam!

7/8

  • Madelyn Jungeblut - In practice Madelyn is engaged, enthusiastic, and her effort never goes unnoticed!
  • Gio Guidi - Gio works so hard in practice with a great attitude.

9/10

  • Taylor Stockton - Taylor is consistent, coachable, and fun to coach.
  • Eli Harvey - Eli’s determination has resulted in some impressive time drops lately!

11/12

  • Emeri Brown - Emeri has really focused in on her technique the last couple weeks and we can see such an improvement in her swims!
  • Owen Wigren - Owen listens, applies feedback, and brings a great energy to the team.

13/14

  • Lydia Boysen - Lydia has been locked in at practice, pushing herself daily.
  • Trey Knight - Trey’s outstanding attendance record and consistent effort has paid off as the summer progresses.

15/18

  • Aubrey Long - Aubrey showed up at a meet one day and asked if we could use some more 15-18 swimmers. We’re thrilled she’s on the team this summer!
  • Caleb Tao - Caleb is setting the tone in practice with his hard work and humility.

See you at the pool!
