2017 Community Service Project
On Friday May 19th, Stingrays will participate in the Lemon Relay Day! event to further our support of our 2017 community service project to help fund childhood cancer research. Stingray swimmers will swim lemon-themed relays and enjoy Lemonhead candy treats; and swimmers and families will fill out a donation pledge card to support the More Than 4! campaign. Three of our 2017 Stingray sponsors will join in support , as will Kona Ice.
As you may know, the Stingrays’s own Stephanie Carroll has been selected for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Woman of the Year campaign. Stephanie’s fundraising team—More Than 4! has selected childhood cancer research as the recipient of proceeds. Stephanie's daughter Drew was touched by childhood cancer as were several other children recently in our Cypress community. Each year in the US alone, 13,500 children 19 and under are diagnosed with cancer. And sadly, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15. However, the NCI spends only 4% of its budget on children’s cancer research while spending 96% of its budget on adult cancers. Hence the theme of Stephanie’s LLS efforts are More Than 4! and proceeds from this event will benefit Stephanie’s LLS team and will be dedicated specifically to childhood cancer research in the form of grants named for Drew Carroll another Cypress-area related childhood cancer survivors.
It’s easy:
1. Print out the donation card (attached).
2. Fill-in your name and donation amount for the Lemon Day Relay swim relay (leave name blank if you wish to remain anonymous)
3. Bring your form and donation to practice on Friday May 19th!
4. Enjoy the Lemon Day relays and lemon treats!

Finally Kona Ice will be selling ice at practice from 5:00-8:30pm and will donate 20% of sales to More Than 4!
