Heads Up from Coach Elise 5/31 - 6/6
Well, Oak Ridge turned out to be out of reach, at least for those of us held captive by floodwaters. And weather has definitely impacted our training time. But we have several great competitions ahead: Bridgelands at home this Saturday, and Summer Thunder Sunday and Monday. Let’s stay on target, use the time we have effectively, and be ready to race! Have a great last week of school, and remember that morning practices begin next week, Tuesday June 7.
This week at Stingrays we’re going to focus on starts, turns and finishes. Each day’s focus is:
Easy speed/maintaining speed (Tuesday).
Quick starts and body position (Wednesday).
Flip turns (Thursday).
Sprint breakouts and finishes (Friday).
If you miss a day, you miss a lot!
Bridgelands Home Meet on Saturday. RSVP today! Choose two events via the swimmer icon on your homepage. If you were disappointed about not getting to swim an off event last meet, choose one of those as well as a best event. Coaches pick third event and may have to make other minor changes for the good of the team, simply because we have access to more information than you do. If you have special requests, you may always place them in the RSVP comments section. However, since we are a team, we need team players. Please please RSVP by Tues midnight* (that’s tomorrow!)
Summer Thunder: Entries are in and relays teams have been formed. Please check your email in-box and inform me of needed changes.
Equipment we’ll be using: Fins (all week as needed) and Paddles (all week as needed). It’s best to have all equipment every day this week.

*As a side note, it may be helpful for me to explain my timeline for meet entries. RSVP online until Tues midnight. Wed morning around 5 a.m. I print out all comments and RSVPs to finalize third individual events. I plan out relays. If you have changes to your RSVP after Tues midnight, you can email me Wed-Thurs morning and I can still make changes. After this point, I can no longer make any changes, because the entries are being compiled for their exchange with the opposing team at 6 p.m. From then on we can only scratch swimmers and make relay substitutions. Within 24 hours of starting warm-up please only text Fri-Sat changes to me at 832-971-8494.
