Heads Up from Coach Elise

Wow, what a meet against Copperfield!  They had some really fast swimmers and a solid team, so we can be proud of our win.  I love it when we work together.  Most our swims were new best times, and that is something to celebrate.  Our swimmers have been working hard in practice, and it shows.

This week at Stingrays we’re going to focus on the details—starts, turns, breakouts, and finishes—to be ready to SWIM TO WIN against the Cypress Mills Mako Sharks on Saturday.  Each day’s focus is:

Backstroke and back turns (Tuesday).

Starts and breaststroke pullouts (Wednesday).

Breakouts (Thursday).

Freestyle and early vertical forearm (Friday).

If you miss a day, you miss a lot! 

Cy-Mills Home Meet on Saturday.  Meet sign-up instructions have changed.  Everyone needs to click on RSVP and respond appropriately for each swimmer.  Comments about late arrivals or early departures should be placed there also.  You must see the “Your RSVP was saved successfully” line to know it was saved.  Otherwise, please try again!  Afterward, click on the swimmer button and choose 2 events.  If you have problems either with RSVP or signing up for events, please send Coach Elise an email in advance of the Tues midnight deadline and she will sign you up Wed morning. 

Goal Sheets:  I would love to get a goal sheet from every swimmer.  You have until this Friday to email me or bring it to practice.  Attached document has 3 blank goal sheets and one sample.  Please let the kids do their own and be more creative than my example in their thinking.  Please help me interpret their handwriting if applicable.

Equipment we’ll be using:  Fins (possibly Tues, Thurs, Fri) and Paddles (possibly Tues and Fri).  It’s best to have all equipment every day, but that’s my current plan for this week.

Weather:  Thunderstorms are expected this week.  When necessary, we will halt practice for a minimum of 15 minutes following last thunder or lightening activity.  If we cancel a practice, you should get a text.
